Tim Holland speaks to Red Devils fan Thomas Heaton about losing that winning mentality, calling time on Giggs, the summer overhaul and Tom Cleverley’s sideways passes.

How do you assess Manchester United's the season so far?

How do you assess Manchester United’s the season so far?

I think even the most ardent pessimist would have struggled to predict how badly this season would have gone. I think people always talked about the ‘Fergie effect’ in the past but this season has just vindicated how good a manager he was. We’ve struggled for form and consistency in the league and the European defeat against Olympiakos was embarrassing.

Do you think Moyes will be replaced in the summer?

I think he’ll get another season although that depends on our placing come the end of the season. He’ll get another transfer window I suspect and he’ll get time to bed in new players next season but if come February we’re not performing then I think he’ll go. Personally I wouldn’t be sorry if he left in the summer.

Wayne Rooney signed a new contract this season. How big was that for the club?

It was huge for the club but it will cost us. For all his tantrums and dramas, he’s a great player but I’m not sure any one player is worth his weekly wage.

Do you think Giggs will be part of the overhaul?

I think I said in the last interview that he can play until his legs go but I think Giggsy‘s time is up. He’s been a great servant to the club but I think he’ll be part of the summer overhaul.

You mention an overhaul in the summer. Who do you think will go?

Vidic has agreed to join Inter which will be a big miss for us even with all his injuries. Rio will likely retire as will Giggs. Ashley Young could be next out of the door along with Evra, Buttner, Valencia and Van Persie. The whole team will need rebuilding next season which means we could have another year of transition.

Where do you think Van Persie will go?

I’ve got a feeling he’ll go to Ajax or PSG in the summer. It feels reminiscent of Rudd Van Nistelrooy for me. Either that or he’ll sign a new contract similar to Rooney. I’ve got the feeling that something’s not quite right.

Who should West Ham fans be wary of in the Man U first XI?

Rooney and Van Persie may be misfiring but they’re still capable of bossing most defences in the league..

What’s your opinion of West Ham this season?

Like many fans across the country, I detest Sam Allardyce and the way he operates. Mourinho described your football as 19th century and I’d have to agree. You had a good February but I think you’ll struggle for results until the end of the season.

Which West Ham players would you have in your squad?

I’ve said it before but I think Reid is a good player and fits the United mould especially with Vidic leaving. Adrian in goal would be a good back up.

What’s your prediction for the match?

2-0 United with Cleverley scoring both!
