Dicks, who retired from playing in 2001 after a career which included more than 250 games in two spells at Upton Park, has held two previous management jobs — at the Eastern Counties League side Wivenhoe Town in 2009 and at Grays Athletic, who he left by mutual consent in 2011. The 45-year-old, who replaces the former coach Mark Saunderson, currently writes a monthly column for Blowing Bubbles.
Speaking about his new role with the women’s team, who finished 10th in the 11-team FA Womens’ Premier League Southern Division last season, Dicks told Sky: “It’s absolutely fantastic to be back at West Ham. I love the club and for me it’s an absolute honour for me to be associated with them once again.
“I’ve managed before at Grays and at Wivenhoe and I’ve played at the highest level and this is my opportunity to give something back. I’m an ambitious person. I was ambitious when I played. I am ambitious as a manager, and I want to take West Ham Ladies as far as I can.â€
