West Ham’s gutless showing against West Brom in the FA Cup was one of the worst performances I have ever seen.
I know that sounds dramatic, and there have been some real horror shows over the years, but considering the occasion the display was practically unforgivable .
When you consider that Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham and Southampton had all been knocked out, this was a great chance to win our first trophy since 1980. At the very least, a day out at Wembley for a semi-final was there for the taking .
I can’t help feeling that the performance, and the way Sam Allardyce barked out the excuses after the game, could have huge implications this summer.
We all know the manager is out of contract at the end of the season and the way we collapsed against the Baggies might just mean he isn’t offered an extension. It would be a shame considering the progress we’ve made this year, but if there are many more performances like that the writing could be on the wall for him in the summer.
