The hard work starts now if we are to turn things around

We've had the worst possible start to the season.

We’ve had the worst possible start to the season.

I spoke about this last month that we didn’t want to be heading into the Huddersfield game with no points and us being desperate for points. Not only did we lose our first three games but the performances weren’t great. There’s losing and then there’s losing when you just don’t turn up.

We didn’t turn up against Manchester United and were swept aside but Newcastle was worse. It cannot be an excuse that we had three games away from home. Now is not the time to be making excuses. The players need to rally around each other and get back to basics.

From my own experience, I can remember having a couple of bad starts to seasons when I was playing. There was one season we had, I can’t remember which, when we had a bad start and had a team meeting on our own and it was sorted out. There were no punches pulled, everyone had their chance to have their say and we got on with it.

I hope over the international break that the squad worked hard and get things sorted. We have a massive month coming up.
