We were delighted to have been invited to the Smoke and Bubbles club for a photocall that saw the fantastic matchday venue had over a cheque for £1,966 to Richard House Children’s Hospice. Photographer Nicky Hayes and ex-Hammer Brian Dear represented our magazine as the Head of Smoke and Bubbles, Laura Woolf, and Richard House’s Catarina Esteves posed for photos.
Smoke and Bubbles, the closest venue to the London Stadium, is situated at Forman’s, east London’s oldest smokery and they raised the money for the children’s hospice by holding raffles on each home match day last season.
Laura told us: ‘We’re so happy to be able to raise money for such a fantastic charity. The good work of Richard House gives hope to many east London families and it truly is a pleasure to be able to contribute to that. Last year we held raffles here at our Smoke & Bubbles club on each of the home games. In total we were able to raise £1966, which is coincidentally the year that England last won the World Cup! We intend on continue to fundraise for them this season too, again with raffles and donation boxes. It all goes towards helping a really great cause.’
The Smoke and Bubbles club is only a short walk from Stratford (12 mins) or Hackney Wick (8 mins) stations, and the walk to the stadium is just five minutes. After posing for photos, Richard House’s Catarina told us: ‘Smoke and Bubbles were a fantastic support to Richard House Children’s Hospice for the 2018/19 season. We rely on the generosity of organisations like Smoke and Bubbles to continue our vital services for seriously ill children and their families in east London. Their generous donation of £1,966 could provide a month’s worth of music therapy enabling children with throat tubes to communicate through sound. We are incredibly grateful that they are supporting us.’
The Smoke and Bubbles’ Claret Club Membership costs £60 per person for the season and includes a beer with every visit on home match days, a smoked salmon bagel or the BBQ offering on your first visit. You also get priority access to their amazing roof terrace overlooking the stadium and mix with other Hammers by their bar.
