West Ham United made history by becoming the first team to win at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium.
The Hammers came away from the new White Hart Lane with a 1-0 victory thanks to a brilliant second-half goal from Michail Antonio.
The winger superbly converted Marko Arnautovic’s inch-perfect cross on 67 minutes and, despite a late scare when Vincent Janssen’s last-gasp header was cleared off the line by Fabian Balbuena, were deserved winners.Embed from Getty Images
And it could have been even better for the Irons as Issa Diop charged almost the entire length of the pitch before scuffing his shot and allowing Hugo Lloris to save.
Victory ended a run of four games without a win for West Ham, who remain 11th in the table with two games to play this season.
Boss Manuel Pellegrini hailed his side’s performance and challenged the team to play to this level more consistently next term.
“We were a complete team, defending together without the ball,” he added.
“This is a transition season. We have demonstrated in big games that we can do it, but we must mentally convince ourselves that we can do better.”
