Manuel Lanzini fired West Ham past Fulham as the Hammers returned to winning ways at Craven Cottage.
The Irons triumphed 1-0 as they responded to being back on home soil following their disappointing trip to China for the Premier League Asia Cup.
Big-money signings Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals made their debuts in the victory although it was one of the old guard who stole the headlines as he won the game with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box on 18 minutes.
Haller almost scored in the second half while Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell both had chances to extend the lead after the break.
“These are not official games but you need to play as well as possible,” said West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini after the game.Embed from Getty Images
“I think that today was a really useful game for us. We had a good pace from the beginning.
“We kept a clean-sheet, which we couldn’t do in the other games. We gave minutes to most players in our squad and I think, in the first 45 minutes especially, we played a very good game.”
West Ham face Hertha Berlin on Wednesday before hosting Athletic Bilbao at London Stadium next Saturday in their final pre-season game of the campaign.
