Hertha Berlin 3-5 West Ham: Sebastien Haller scores first goal for club in thriller

Fellow new-boy Pablo Fornals was also on target as the Irons came from behind three times to win

Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals scored their first goals for West Ham as the Irons beat Hertha Berlin 5-3 in a thriller in Germany.

The summer signings were both on target in the pre-season victory along with Manuel Lanzini, Michail Antonio and Grady Diangana.

West Ham were forced to come from behind three times to win and were as dazzling going forward as they were suspect defensively.

The Hammers got off to the worst possible start as Pascal Kopke put the hosts in front on four minutes but West Ham levelled nine minutes later through Fornal’s powerful strike.

Hertha took the lead for the second time on the night through Davie Selke but Lanzini powered home to make it 2-2 at the break.

Hertha retook the lead just after the hour when Kopke tapped home the rebound after Roberto had only parried the initial shot.

But record-signing Haller scored his first goal in claret and blue with a cool header into the far corner to make it 3-3.

And, soon after, West Ham took the lead for the first time on the night through Diangana, who strode into the penalty area and swept home a fine effort.

Antonio then rounded off the scoring in injury-time following a fine move involving Diangana and Javier Hernandez to secure the victory.
