Southampton 0-1 West Ham: Haller strike lifts the gloom

The Hammers striker secured a vital three points on the south coast

West Ham returned to winning ways as we secured a vital three points with victory over Southampton.

Sebastien Haller scored the only goal of the game as he drove home Pablo Fornals’ knock-down 10 minutes before half time.

It was the least we deserved from the game as we also had a strong penalty appeal turned down by VAR and a Michail Antonio goal ruled out for handball.

The result will ease the pressure on Manuel Pellegrini who has been under pressure following the side’s poor run of form.

“I don’t read the media but I am not stupid. If you don’t get results, if you have five points from 30, you’re in a difficult moment. I can’t divide myself from the team. For West Ham it was an important three points. I said before the game that I felt every day the commitment of the players in the work that they do. I am happy for the players. We started the season very well and I hope now we have recovered our best performance for the next games.”
