There are a few West Ham young players who, inspired by the likes of Declan Rice, could be stepping up to the first team on a more regular basis.
The first obvious choice for me is Nathan Holland. Nathan is a pacey winger that can play on either flank and has a very good goals to games ratio. Holland is now 21 and will be 22 at the end of the season. He has taken a loan move to Oxford United to get some match time and has already impressed there with two goals in the league, both coming in a 5-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.
He also grabbed an outstanding goal against Newcastle in the FA Cup. Nathan has represented England at Under 19 levels and some of the younger national year groups. I think the experience with Oxford will be good for him so he can hopefully come back and challenge for a West ham first team spot.
Conor Coventry is another player who is currently out on loan in League One and this is with Lincoln City. Coventry is a defensive/box-to-box midfielder who has also played at international level, this time for the Republic of Ireland under 21s and younger years.
There are not many West Ham players that can say they made their debut in an 8-0 win but Conor did, against Macclesfield in the League Cup. Conor has already turned out six times for Lincoln City and is starting to settle and show what a player he can be alongside fellow former academy graduate Anthony Scully.
You cannot look much further than Jeremy Ngakia who has played right back in both our games against Liverpool. I thought he was impressive in both games and with Fredericks now injured, I would give him a go at making the position his own until Ryan does return, rather than opting with the experience of Zabaleta.
He is a pacy fullback who can also play on the right wing. Jeremy faced a few challenges in his younger years but has overcome them and has been one of the surprise packages this season. The next player I wish to talk about is the very highly-rated attacking midfielder/forward Amadou Diallo who has represented England at under 19s level.
Amadou recently signed a new contract and the club beat off competition from a host of top clubs including Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid. He regularly gets goals and is a really exciting player to watch. Aje Alese is another League One loanee who is strutting his stuff at Accrington Stanley (Who are they?!).
He has all the physical attributes to be a solid centre back going forward. Aje has also played at England under 19s level. If all these players make it through from our youth set up it would further evidence why the club has the reputation of being known as The Academy.
We have had some amazing events recently and still can’t believe there are readers out there who haven’t tried them yet. Recent guests have included our two greatest ever keepers in Phil Parkes and Ludek Miklosko.
Before the Wolves game, we have the hilarious Marlon Harewood as our guest. Not only will he have some great banter but he was a huge part of a significant part of our history. Tickets are available from my Twitter, thewesthamway.co.uk and from our Facebook page.
