Rob and Phoebe Scott were also delighted to be back at the London Stadium and said it was an amazing feeling to be able to get back to watching West Ham live.
“My daughter and I were buzzing to be back,” he said. “The social distancing all seemed to work very well at the London Stadium with the majority of fans respecting each other.
“The lads came out to a fantastic reception from the fans. Lots of singing, clapping and cheering. It was an absolutely fantastic feeling and great noise bearing in mind there were only 2,000 fans; it sounded like there were many more.
“I was gutted by the result. It seemed that as soon as Man U went 2-1 up, our heads dropped and we simply struggled to take hold of the game.
“But what an incredible feeling to be there and we cannot wait for the opportunity to return again; it cannot come soon enough. It was great being able to get away from the stadium and onto the train with ease with no crowds.”
Phoebe added: “There really was a sense of excitement on the train from Romford to Stratford. Fans were obviously buzzing on the walk to the ground albeit rather eerie with so few fans.
“It was really easy getting into the ground and everything seemed well organised. There were free hot drinks for the fans, which was a nice touch.
“Walking down the steps to the pitch was such an amazing feeling; it’s been too long being away.
“Being surrounded by fans chanting and cheering just brought back why we love West Ham so much.
“The sooner we can get back to watching football at the stadium full time the better. You could see how much it meant to the fans and players alike.
“It was a fantastic evening but such a shame not to have taken points from the game.”
