Opposition View: Confident Saints fans look forward to post-Christmas cracker

We talk to a Southampton fan about what they expect from Moyes’ boys

This month, Olivia Elliott catches up with Southampton fan Jude Hoodang, as we look ahead to playing the Saints in December.

Who would you consider the best player is for West Ham?

Tricky one, former Saint Michail Antonio springs to mind, great to see him performing so well after our League One days 10 years ago. I have also been really impressed with Bowen; he really has done well since his move up from Hull.

What do you think West Hams strengths and weaknesses are?

Your strengths are your attacking players, backed by the 2 centre midfielders of Rice and Soucek who are in my fantasy team. Your weaknesses I guess it will have to be the defence, but I think confidence is growing now you have some stability in your manager and a belief is coming back into your game.

How do you think Southampton will get on this season?

I’d just love us to continue playing with the identity we have crafted over the past year. I don’t think we fear teams anymore and have a real belief in what the manager is wanting from us.  We carry on playing like this I’ll be happy, especially if we climb the table.

What player for Southampton should opposing teams watch out for?

They have all shown up this season, plenty of competition. Hopefully Danny will be back, as you will always fancy him to score out of nothing. But also, can’t underestimate Chè he’s finding his confidence now.

How impressed are you with Ralph Hasenhuttl?

King Ralph! He’s a revelation, I think you ask any Saint what their views are on him and I think we would all admit to having a crush on the guy- we adore him! He has really transformed our club, has changed the culture and brought back the feel-good factor.

Thoughts on Theo Walcott returning?

Return of Theo I’m loving it! It’s working out well, he wants to be here, and you believe him when he says it as well.  I think his experience in the Prem shines through and can only be a good thing for the young players in our team. His versatility to be able to play in a number of positions is beneficial to the team as well.

What minute of the infamous Leicester City game did you walk out?

THAT game! I was there to the end; we sang pretty much every chant/song about past players that we could that night. Was a weird evening in so many ways like the rain, the sending off, every ball kicked towards our goal going in… it was horrible.  Although, I think the Everton game was worse from a performance POV.

How do you feel when Tottenham sing your song?

Tottenham…. find me a song book that mentions Spurs instead of Saints. Spurs aren’t a thing that can walk on their own, plus, they sing it so slowly that it sounds like a dirge.

What are your score predictions for Southampton vs West Ham?

3-1 to the mighty Saints!!!
