Pride as we’re shortlisted for Fanzine of the Year award and reflect on our nine-year journey so far

I was delighted that Blowing Bubbles was shortlisted for Fanzine of the Year at last month’s Football Supporters’ Association awards. There are some fantastic long-standing fanzines out there so to be considered one of the best was a brilliant pat on the back for the team.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the award, I left The Londoner Hotel – the venue for the FSA’s awards – full of pride. There is no doubt that we wouldn’t have been shortlisted without the wonderful work of our small yet dedicated team. From when we launched way back in 2012 to today, we’ve had to constantly adapt and evolve to produce the fanzine we do today.

There’s a core of writers that have been with us since the very start, some that joined a year or two later, and others that have come in more recently but all have played their part in helping to take us to the another level. Collectively, as I’m sure you’ll agree, they brilliantly capture the different highs and lows of life as a West Ham fan each and every month.

And then there’s you. Without your continued support for our work and your subscriptions, we wouldn’t be able to produce this monthly magazine. I must admit I was worried about our very existence when the Premier League was halted, and then Project Restart happened without fans. We’d lost a regular income stream.

But subscriptions shot up – both hard copies and digitally – to people not just in the UK but around the world. The future looks bright for Blowing Bubbles – just like it does for West Ham United.
