Opposition View: ‘West Ham have been fantastic this season…’

We caught up with a few rival fans to get their views on West Ham's 2021/22 season

This month we caught up Everton fan Kieran Rants, Newcastle supporter Jack Charlton, Liverpool fanatic Stuart McManus, Arsenal follower Dominic Mensah, and Watford lover Cian Hallahan

What was your assessment of West Ham this season?

Kieran: West Ham have been brilliant this year, David Moyes has done an outstanding job with limited resources.

Jack: West Ham have been fantastic this season considering you didn’t strengthen with many signings in January. Your Europa league run was phenomenal, especially the Sevilla home game.

Stuart: I think West Ham have had such an amazing season overall getting to the Europa semi final and qualifying for Europe once again.

Dominic: I think West Ham overall have had a positive season. I was really hoping you would win the Europa League – what a story that would’ve been!

Cian: West Ham really impressed me as a whole. European success, huge performances in the league and players earning their spot in the squad who I wasn’t expecting to see.

Aside from Rice, which West Ham players have impressed you this campaign?

Kieran: Ben Johnson. I felt like he’s appeared out of nowhere this season and has been fantastic for such a young lad.

Jack: I thought Areola was great in the Europa league. Should be your number one next season. Bowen too was fantastic and added more goals and assists to his game.

Stuart: The other players that impressed me were Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio. Antonio leading from the front and Bowen down the right wing this season has been great.

Dominic: I think the obvious one is Bowen. Great stats and such an important player for the team. I was happy he got his England call up and I expect him to keep pushing hard to make it on the plane for Qatar.

Cian: For me and many others Bowen is the standout, his movement, goals and overall ability really shone through this season. Hoping he can bring this form into the England set up.

What’s your prediction for West Ham next season?

Kieran: I reckon West Ham will retain a European spot and win the Conference League. With the right investment, I think they’ll have enough quality over Wolves, Brighton and Leicester to stay on top.

Jack: I think West Ham will come eighth in the Premier League but make the Conference League final and maybe even win it!

Stuart: I think West Ham will again finish top half of table. qualify for Europe again and maybe challenge the big boys for the bigger European spots.

Dominic: I think West Ham will challenge again for those European places and will definitely go far in the Europa Conference League. I hope they can win it so the fans get to celebrate some silverware.

Cian: I can see West Ham having a slightly tamer season than this year. Perhaps mid table and a League Cup run. Interesting to see how the departure of Stuart Pearce will impact performances.
