It was disappointing to miss out on winning Fanzine of the Year at the 2023 Football Supporters’ Association Awards. This was the third time we’ve been shortlisted since 2015 and I felt this was our strongest entry to date. I felt it could finally be our time.
Again we faced tough competition for the crown with the strong list of fanzines including A Love Supreme (Sunderland), Alternative Wales (Welsh football), Dogma (Brighton & Hove Albion), My Only Desire (Charlton Athletic), & The Blue & White (Chester FC). But it’s starting to feel like we’ll always be the bridesmaid and never the bride and I was jealous watching the team behind Dogma go up to the stage and collect this year’s award.
Having said this, I’m sure our day will come, and despite missing out on this title once, I am still pleased that we made the shortlist. To be in such an elite group of fantastic football publications was a massive pat on the back and recognition of not only the huge amount of time and effort we put into producing every issue but also to the continued support we’ve had from the West Ham Family.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without our team of writers whose brilliant articles, I’m sure you’ll agree, beautifully capture the rollercoaster of life as a West Ham fan each month. A special thanks also to designer Kelvin Farrell who helps bring our copy to life in every edition.
What I think has always helped Blowing Bubbles stand out from the crowd is the variation of content every month. I’ve always strived for our team to cover a wide range of topics each month but we will continue to change and evolve to ensure you continue to enjoy reading cover to cover.
