Antonio’s injured, Ings is out of form, Moyes must trust in Mubama

The mystery is why the manager hadn't given him a chance earlier in the season

Divin Mubama must be handed a starting place on a regular basis. Club insiders were mightily impressed with the teenager’s display after he arrived as a second half sub against Burnley and see him as the future. Sadly, his representatives are currently playing hardball over a new contract for the teenager and allegedly want first team wages, although those close to him claim they are simply trying to tick all the boxes on his future rather than this being a ‘financially driven’ situation.

The 19-year-old has been with the club since he was eight years old and is as much a fan as he is a player and he wants to stay at the club that has reared him. But he obviously needs to show David Moyes what he can do. He received a real chance in the Europa League last month but needs many more chances given the awful form of both Danny Ings and the now injured Michail Antonio.

Divin was unlucky not to score his first Premier League goal when his touch brushed off a Burnley defender before entering the net, but his joy was unconfined as he wheeled away following the equaliser. As a fan of the Hammers, every other fan will have celebrated with the east end kid.

His energy, determination and ability to make a real pest of himself was really good to see and for every fan there is nothing quite like seeing a young Hammer break through from the academy. Now Moyes himself has applauded the lad’s display so hopefully it will be hard for him to leave him on the bench game after game.

The mystery is why the manager hadn’t given him a chance earlier in the season. His insistence on sticking with an entirely out-of-sorts Antonio has lost us games. With the packed schedule of games over the next month, it’s hard to see how even Moyes can avoid giving him a decent run out.

Meanwhile, Newcastle played three academy players against Chelsea and had a resounding win against Chelsea.
