Opposition View: ‘No-one even mentions Rice’s price tag anymore which shows you how good he’s been at Arsenal’

We caught up with Arsenal fan Nathan Frost ahead of our Premier League clash

Issa Diop (WHU) and Declan Rice (WHU) at the Arsenal v West Ham United EPL match, at the Emirates Stadium, London, UK on 11th December, 2021.

Thoughts on your season so far?

Nathan: I can’t complain at all. We’re currently near the top of the league as well as already topping the group in the Champions League. The aim is obviously to win the league. We have started the season very well with some good results especially against both Manchester clubs. We’ve kind of reverted to a new style this season which is to try and control games hence why we have won a lot of games away from home.

How gutted were you last season when Arsenal started to fall off the ropes in the title charge?

Nathan: Of course I was very gutted the way we capitulated towards the end of last season, especially the results at home to Southampton and being 2-0 up against West Ham and not winning wasn’t good enough. At the beginning of last season, absolutely no-one had Arsenal to be anywhere near challenging for the title and with the start we had, to fall off was disappointing.

And speaking of players being dropped, Arteta made the decision to drop Aaron Ramsdale for David Raya. Why is this?

Nathan: Well it’s ultimately because he doesn’t trust Ramsdale enough throughout the season. Aaron was brilliant last season and some might say he’s been harshly treated because ultimately he was a huge reason why we went on a title challenge but then again he’s still got a bad mistake in him. I’d be very surprised if Aaron wants to move on in January and if I’m being honest from what i’ve seen in Raya this season, he’s not a huge upgrade on Ramsdale and has a mistake in himself.

Honestly, do you think Arsenal got a bargain for Declan Rice?

Nathan: Yes for sure. No-one is even speaking about his price tag which just goes to show how good he really has been. Every single game he is at least a seven out of 10 and he’s won man of the match for us consistently. I’ve always been a huge Declan Rice fan and he is a joy to watch. He drives us forward and already shows leadership on the pitch. I’d be very surprised if at the end of next season he’s not given the armband.

What are your thoughts on Rice going out with the Arsenal squad back in January before actually making the move in summer?

Nathan: I’m not sure how entirely true that is. It’s probably all just rumours, like him apparently meeting up with Arteta in Arteta’s own house in December. I’m not sure that really did happen. We were linked with Rice in January and Arteta did definitely do a lot of groundwork behind the scenes in order to bring him in and the price tag alone goes to show how much he really was Arteta’s main man. Rice is obviously friendly with a lot of the England boys like Saka, Ramsdale and played youth level for years with Eddie Nketiah so he probably was told a lot about the club from them guys.

Do you see Arsenal winning the Premier League this year?

Nathan: Well I hope so of course. The worry is Manchester City are brilliant with the best manager in the world and a striker who will probably score 35 to 40 goals this season. I believe we do have a chance. We need some more cover in January but as long as we are near the top of the table and not far behind City we can really take them the whole way.

How did it feel to see Arsenal knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham?

Nathan: It’s never nice to lose against West Ham but I was more upset about the performance rather than actually going out of the Carabao Cup. It is the least of our priorities this season, of course a day at Wembley and to win it would have been very nice but Arteta’s team selection resting most of our best players just goes to show where it is in terms of priority for him.

Score prediction for your game against West Ham?

Nathan: 2-0 Arsenal
