Opposition View: ‘Anything less than top four won’t be a success for Spurs…’

We catch up with Spurs fan John Clarke ahead of our Premier League clash

22.02.15 - Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United - Barclays Premier League - Harry Kane hits the post for Spurs.

How do you think your season is going so far?

John: It’s going well. It’s nice to be within touching distance of fourth place so if we can try and stay within range or move into the top four as we get towards the end of the season, it would be good to see.

What are your thoughts on your manager?

John: Ange Postecoglou is a great manager and a genuine man. He seems to understand where the players are performing at their best and seems to have the players wanting to win every game under him as a manager. He gets Spurs and I think we can really start to see that with how the players are performing on the pitch.

How did you feel about Harry Kane leaving Spurs for Bayern?

John: Gutted. As any person would be when a legendary player leaves their club. I’m still trying to get used to him not being on the team sheet as you just think he’s injured. I think it will hit me more next season that he is gone forever.

Is James Maddison the player Spurs have been crying out for over the last few years?

John: Absolutely. He has come into this Spurs side and turned everything around. He may not be Harry Kane but he is the closest we are going to get. He was on fire when he was at Leicester and he has carried that on whilst playing for us. Hopefully he can get a few more goals and assists to his name before the season ends.

Did the signing of Timo Werner come as a surprise to you?

John: Yes it did. I feel like it randomly did come out of the blue. One day it was a quiet transfer day, the next we are being linked to him, and then before you know it he’s signed. I’m happy with the signing as he has played in the Premier League before so he knows how it works. I’m hoping he can get his name on the scoresheet soon.

What would be a successful season for your team?

John: Top four without a doubt. If we get anything less it won’t be successful. We have an unbelievable team who should be finishing in the top four easily. It’s a shame Villa are doing so well otherwise we would be in that position already. Although it does give us a reason to fight and win every game.

And finally what was it like seeing West Ham win the Conference League?

John: Annoying. That’s the best way to sum it up. Whilst I think it’s brilliant and an English club won the Conference League, it’s annoying that it had to be you guys. This reaction probably comes from jealousy and the fact it was you boys. But hopefully we might be able to do it next.
