We were recently invited by West Ham United to participate in the annual Players’ Project. After his visit two years ago to us for a similar event, we welcomed Lukasz Fabianski to the distribution depot that we share with Community Food Enterprise in Silvertown.
We had Lukasz splitting up a recent pallet delivery with ISF volunteers, which was due to be split with four local foodbanks in the coming days. We also had a visit arranged to Bonny Downs Community Association where we were delivering some of the food, and also meeting up with Kinga Szemik, our women’s and Polish women’s goalkeeper.
‘I had a chance to do something similar a couple of years ago and I had a chance to meet John, and I realised how great a job he’s doing for the local community,’ said the men’s team’s No1. ‘When I heard about this happening, I was really looking forward to it, not only to see John again but to have a chance to see Kinga as well.
‘Since I joined West Ham, the Club has been crazy about supporting the local community, and each year I think they just grow in terms of how much they want to provide for and help people. It’s something so nice and special, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.’
At Bonny Downs we were welcomed by a room full of excited kids and volunteers, who also received a donation of footballs from the club for their sports groups. Right now, we’re in the middle of our busiest time of the year with sourcing and distributing thousands of Christmas selection boxes along with the ordering and distributing ambient foods from our Silvertown depots.
Ahead of the Wolves game, we also teamed up with The Multibank charity for a donation collection of hygiene products at our gazebo.
Our involvement in the campaign, running across most of the country’s games over the first December weekend, is designed to raise awareness, and respond to the rising issues of hygiene poverty amongst young people up-and-down the United Kingdom, guaranteeing that they can approach 2025 equipped with the tools, assurance, and confidence, they need to maximise opportunity and potential in the classroom.
Gifted products will support the build of essential hygiene packs, to be distributed via The Multibank’s place-based network of charities, teachers, social workers, and healthcare professionals. These items include soap, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, provided they are sealed and within expiration date.
The Multibank charity in London has teamed up with the Felix Project for distribution across London. Most sporting fixtures across the country will be holding similar events, and we’re proud to support the charity. Finally, as this is the Christmas edition, we would like to thank the massive West Ham fan family for the support we’ve received this year. It’s kept us going. You are the best fans in the world.
