Opposition View: ‘City won’t win the Premier League but Pep is not under pressure from fans…’

We catch up with Manchester City fan Henry Parish ahead of our Premier League clash

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (WHU) at the West Ham United v Manchester City EPL match, at the London Stadium, London, UK on 31st August, 2024.

What are your thoughts on your season so far?

It’s been dreadful for the last couple of games in the Premier League and in the Champions League. I think the players’ heads have dropped and there’s no one in the dressing room that is keeping our players together. We need to have a voice in that dressing room and it seems to me that we are missing out on that big time.

Have teams found out how to win against City?

I think they have. They know we don’t cross the ball the first time. I mean Walker has absolutely had it, he just never crosses the ball in and we seem to be trying too hard to score the perfect goal constantly rather than actually trying to score a goal if you get what I mean. Hopefully it’s just a phase we’re going through at the moment.

Is Pep under pressure from the City faithful?

Not at all. He’s won us trophies and has given me the best days of my life as a City fan so no way is he under any form of pressure. He would only be under pressure if we were struggling to qualify for the Champions League or Europe.

Do you think the title race is over for City?

I’d like to say no but I do probably think the most realistic answer is yes. Liverpool are doing amazing right now and it’s actually great to see. It’s probably nice for everyone else in the league to watch someone else win the title. But hopefully we aren’t out of it yet and everyone will start to drop points as we pick them up.

How much are City missing Rodri?

I miss him personally so I dread to think what the players are feeling like when they look up on the pitch and he’s not there. But we really are missing him and although football is a team game, it’s really made us as fans realise how much we rely on him as a player not only to defend but to create chances and be that solid reliable player everyone wants in their team.

Is KDB off in January?

I don’t think so or I’d like to think not. He’s come back from an injury and Pep doesn’t seem to be playing him as much. I’m not too sure if that’s based on the fact he doesn’t want to risk him getting injured again or whether it’s because he’s not been putting in the effort in training. I guess we will find out next month.

Will City win a trophy this season?

Yes. Whilst it might not be the Premier League or the Champions League, it probably will be the FA Cup. We always perform well in that – famous last words!
