Opposition View: ‘We’re hoping Villa can go all the way in the Champions League…’

We catch up with Aston Villa supporter Steve Williams ahead of our FA Cup clash

How is Champions League football treating you?

Amazing, it’s absolutely brilliant to travel Europe and play the top teams and players in the world. Not only that but to welcome them to Villa Park. The games under the lights is another level of football itself and fanbase. The atmosphere is incredible and the roar when we score gives me goosebumps.

But do you think these extra games in the Champions League have caught up with you this season?

I don’t think they’ve helped us with being so back-to-back with the Premier League as I think we could be sitting higher in the table without dropping silly points against poorer teams. However, we are still doing well and can climb up the table.

What were your thoughts on the rumours in the summer of Duran joining West Ham?

I thought he was off to the Hammers when he did the irons sign on an Instagram live. To be honest with you I wanted him to go when he did that. As it proved his heart and motivation was somewhere else. But since then I’ve been over the moon that we’ve kept him.

Do you think you’ll be able to keep hold of him in the January transfer window?

I think so. I mean he’s never going to beat Watkins into the starting line up unless Watkins is injured but he’s perfect for rotation and giving Watkins a break from constantly playing all the time.

Do you think Villa will qualify for the Champions League this season?

Yes I really do think so. Whilst I think Forest are having a brilliant season, I do think they will start to drop points soon and start to fall back down the table. I’m pretty sure when everyone around us starts dropping points, we will be picking them up.

How far do you think Villa will get in the Champions League?

Hopefully all the way! But realistically I think we will get to the semi finals and meet a really tough team there which will crush our hopes. Just hoping we can run into Manchester City soon whilst they’re on their downfall.
