Beyond matchday: West Ham fans continue foodbank and clothing support during summer

Despite the on-field season ending, supporter efforts continue across East London and beyond, with food pallets, new clothing, and outreach now stretching to over 100 community groups.

Now that our on-field disappointing season has ended, we’ve had to put away our London Stadium collection tins until our next August home game, be it the Betway Cup, or whatever it may be being renamed as, or our opening Premier League game. But we’ll still be active during the close season, ordering food pallets for our foodbanks or for distribution by the council’s Food Alliance Network. All being well, we should be seeing a pallet being delivered to our communities every few weeks until August.

Acknowledging Volunteer and Partner Support

Over the season we’ve had match day support from a number of individuals and also volunteers from our charity partner Bonny Downs Community Association. We also appreciate the support from the WHU Supporters’ Club, and the patrons using the Hammers Chat boats. This past season we’ve also received great support from the guys at Hammers United, we’d like to extend our massive thanks to all involved for helping us do what we do.

Distribution of Essential Clothing

In tandem with the foodbank’s work, we’ve recently received a huge amount of new clothing to be distributed to families and homeless groups. This includes six pallets of clothing from our regular High Street supplier, several boxes of sportswear from Umbro, and several boxes of leisure tops from West Ham United. Some of these have gone out to the families who sadly lost all their possessions in the recent Newham house fire. We’ve also been able to give out a number of baseball caps to the homeless during the current hot weather.

Expanding Our Community Reach

We continue to receive enquiries of support to new groups, including a recent foodbank in east London. We’ll be getting our first food support pallet into Havering district in the next fortnight, via the council’s Tapestry Group, with distribution from their Hornchurch hub to several foodbanks operating in the borough. This now stretches our involvement to well over 100 foodbanks, community and homeless groups from Poplar across to Colchester. We can only achieve what we do with the support of the West Ham fans who in turn allow us to support those in our communities who are struggling for whatever reason. It is appreciated by so many. Have a great summer.
