It didn’t come as a surprise to me that Potter had been let go because I think he was a dead man walking. It was just about the timing and I can only assume that the club did what they did, when they did because they needed to know they definitely had Nuno signed up.
Why the Potter Project Failed
Why didn’t it work for Potter? I think it’s a combination of a few things and I think it just came to the point where it seemed that it wasn’t going to get any better. I think the fact that Oliver Glasner has won more games at London Stadium than Potter is a pretty damning stat. I’m sure Potter won’t be the last manager to get the sack this season though but I think it just got to the stage where I think everyone could see which way this was going.
Nuno’s Immediate Statement
It’s been interesting that Nuno has come in and has already made a call with Ward Prowse. He’s said, you know what? Thanks but no thanks, which is a big statement to make. I think for Nuno – like any out of work manager – they will be looking at available jobs and there’s always going to be someone who will take it. It’s the nature of the beast.
The Hope for a ‘Forest’ Effect
I’m hoping that Nuno will do a similar job for us that he did at Forest. More than anything, I hope we can start looking upwards. We’ll soon find out and if it doesn’t work out with Nuno, then we’re looking at a particularly bad season aren’t we? I know it’s still early days in the season but just look at sides like Sunderland, it’s far better to have points on the board than always having to play catch up.
A Tight Bottom Half: Defensive Fixes are Vital
I also think it’s going to be quite tight in the bottom of the table this season. We need to start getting as many points as possible as quickly as possible. One thing is for sure, we need to be better defensively because we can’t keep shipping goals like we are. And I’m sure that’ll be the first thing he’ll be working on and he’ll be hoping we can shore things up and then maybe nick a couple of one-nils.
