Opposition View: “Leeds are back where we belong”

Leeds supporter Kenny Phelps talks honesty about the squad's lack of top-flight experience, the importance of Anton Stach and Jayden Bogle, the 'grittier' return to the Premier League, and why Elland Road must become a fortress.

West Ham fans at the West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur EPL match, at the London Stadium, London, UK on 13th September, 2025.

Back Where We Belong: The Fight for Survival

How are you feeling about Leeds being back in the Premier League Kenny?

Kenny: Honestly, it just feels right to be back where we belong. I think we’ve got enough fight and togetherness to stay up, but it’s going to be a proper scrap. No one’s under any illusions about that.

Squad Concerns and Managerial Trust

Do you think the squad has enough Premier League experience to compete week in, week out?

Kenny: That’s the worry, isn’t it? We’ve got talent, but not loads of proven top-flight heads. If injuries hit, we’ll need the younger lads to grow up fast.

Daniel Farke’s at the helm again – is he the right man to keep you up long term?

Kenny: Yeah, he’s earned that trust. He knows how to get a team playing his way, and he’s calm under pressure  which is exactly what we need in a season like this.

Key Players and Transfer Targets

Which summer signings have impressed you the most so far?

Kenny: Definitely Anton Stach. He’s slotted into midfield like he’s been here for years – calm on the ball, covers loads of ground, and gives us that bit of composure in tough games. You can already see how important he’s going to be over the season.

And Kenny, who’s been your player of the season at Leeds up to now?

Kenny: I’d say Jayden Bogle. He’s been absolutely solid at right-back – gets stuck in defensively and offers a real outlet going forward. Every game he looks more and more like a Premier League regular.

If you could strengthen one position in January, what would it be?

Kenny: A proper Premier League striker. Someone who can hit double figures and take the pressure off the wide players.

Ambition and The Elland Road Factor

Be honest Kenny – is survival the aim for Leeds, or can you push for mid-table?

Kenny: Survival first, no question. If we can hit mid-table then brilliant, but 17th would still be a success this year.

What’s been your standout moment for Leeds so far this season?

Kenny: That first home win back at Elland Road absolute scenes. The atmosphere was electric and it felt like a statement: “we’re back”.”

Elland Road is always rocking – how big of a factor do you think home form will be this season?

Kenny: Massive. Teams hate coming here, and if we can turn Elland Road into a fortress, that’ll give us the edge we need to stay up.

How does this return to the Prem feel compared to your last stint a few years back?

Kenny: It feels a bit less romantic and more gritty this time. Before it was all “Bielsa-ball and vibes,” now it’s about stability and staying power.
