Fulham fan view ahead of the London derby with West Ham

An opposition insight into life under Marco Silva and whether the record-breaking signing of Kevin is living up to the hype

West Ham United vs Fulham Barclays Premier League 01/09/2012 Andy Carroll and Jussi Jaaaskelainen combine to thwart Brede Hangeland of Fulham.

How confident are you in Marco Silva’s long-term project has he taken Fulham as far as he can, or is there another level?

I still think there’s another level under Silva. We’ve built a proper identity and even though results wobble, the structure of the team feels stronger than it’s ever been in the Premier League.

What’s been your biggest frustration this season: inconsistency, squad depth, or the lack of a clinical No. 9?

The killer swings of inconsistency
Inconsistency, 100%. Some weeks we look top-half quality and the next we look miles off it. A proper goalscorer would help, but the swings are the killer.

How do you rate the club’s recruitment over the last two windows progress or stagnation?

Progress, but slow. Kevin has added excitement, Smith Rowe is finally getting rhythm, and Chukwueze has moments but we’re still a couple of smart signings short of a complete squad.

Who’s been Fulham’s true standout this season and why?

Standing out at the back
Bernd Leno again without him we’d be in trouble. But I’d also shout out Calvin Bassey, who’s been rock solid and looks like he’s levelled up this year.

Is the midfield strong enough for a top-half push, or is that where the next investment needs to go?

We need more. Berge is a good presence and Lukic keeps it ticking, but we’re missing that dynamic midfielder who can drive the game like the top teams have.

What has been the most ‘Fulhamish’ moment of this season so far?

Classic Fulham heartbreak
Dominating a game for 70 minutes, missing three big chances, and then conceding from the opposition’s first shot on target. Classic Fulham heartbreak.

How big of a role do you think the Cottage atmosphere plays in Fulham’s form this year?

Massive. The Cottage is tight, loud and actually feels like an advantage again — especially on evening games where it really lifts the team.

What have you made of Kevin since becoming Fulham’s record signing has the £34.6m winger lived up to the hype so far?

Assessing the record signing
He’s shown flashes of why we paid the money really direct, sharp movement, looks a level above technically. Still raw, but you can see he’ll be a huge player once he settles fully.
