Whenever I hear David Moyes name come up there will always be a smile on my face. I’m still a firm believer that it was his time to leave, but I will never forget the seasons we had with him. Now we are seeing the David Moyes we had become successful at Everton.
In my opinion I believe his reception will be good and I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be. Last season I was there at Goodison Park and after the game Moyes came over and clapped whilst us fans started to sing “Champions of Europe, We know what we are” and clapped back.
Now with more on this game for us as it’s close to a must win, after the game may be a bit more toxic after a loss and we may not be there to clap him after but I’m sure many will stay regardless and won’t forget what Moyes brought to our club.
Three Moyes Masterclasses to Remember
Throughout Moyes’ reign he produced some masterclasses, my top three are; Sevilla at home, Lyon at home and at home to Spurs in lockdown.
The Sevilla game is still one of my most favourite games as a West Ham fan. Going into the game not really believing that we’d get through and not realising how loud we can make the London Stadium.
The way Moyes dictated us through Europe needs to be spoken about more. He always kept us in the tie, whoever it was against. The way we turned up against Lyon, I was in disbelief but yet again Moyes found a way in the hardest of games to get us through and I believe without Moyes the results especially don’t happen.
For Spurs at home that’s when things started with Moyes and I could really see how this team would go far, just a shame he couldn’t keep Lingard.
Fighting in Big Competitions
His play style was boring but I’ll always be entertained after a win. I think as fans we always say we wanna watch enjoyable football but really we want to be fighting in big competitions.
We were doing this with Moyes. I believe coming nearer the end of his reign, the results started to get worse and the way we played didn’t help.
With Declan Rice leaving, I think that was the start of Moyes’ downfall. He was vital just like Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek were but losing him and never really replacing him, the way we played had to change and we were nowhere near clinical anymore.
The Everton Resurgence
Everton are now becoming the team we were when we had Moyes. They’re still in the race for Europe, hard to beat and have a few players that can make the difference. They are also a team based around hard work and even if they miss out on Europe this season I can already tell, if they keep Moyes, they will be in the hunt again next season.
Can Nuno Become the New Moyes?
As silly as this may sound, I believe if Nuno can keep us up, he can become a Moyes. They both play the same way and bring in players with similar qualities. They’re managers that make sure we are in the tie for as long as possible and they always speak about how the fans can play a massive part in every game.
He has shown this whilst he was managing Wolves and Nottingham Forest. So if Nuno can cast a miracle in our remaining games and keep us up, we may see a few similar seasons to what we had with Moyes. And maybe just maybe another trophy.
I still believe we made the right decision letting Moyes go but I also believe he should have been given a bit more money to keep progressing this side. If he got some more funds, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he was still our manager now. It will be nice to see him on the 25th but hopefully he helps us stay in the Premier League by also beating Tottenham on the last game of the season.
